Health Through Nutrigenomics
Nutrigenomics explores how nutrients and naturally occurring compounds can influence gene expression and cellular pathways.
This emerging field helped change the way we think about nutrition. Rather than simply providing nutrients, certain compounds can also influence the biological pathways involved in cellular defence, energy production and healthy ageing.
Three pathways that have been central to my exploration of cellular health are:
Nrf2 • Cellular defence and resilience
NRF1 • Mitochondrial function and energy
NAD • Cellular energy and healthy ageing
Understanding Nrf2
[nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2].
Nrf2 is a naturally occurring transcription factor that plays an important role in the body's cellular defence system.
When activated, Nrf2 moves into the cell nucleus where it influences the expression of genes involved in antioxidant defence, detoxification and cellular protection.
This includes enzymes such as glutathione-related enzymes, catalase and superoxide dismutase, which form part of the body's own response to oxidative stress.
Supporting these endogenous defence pathways has become an important area of research in cellular health and healthy ageing.

Understanding NRF1
(nuclear respiratory factor 1)
NRF1 is a transcription factor involved in regulating genes important for mitochondrial function and cellular energy metabolism.
It plays a role in mitochondrial biogenesis, the process by which cells maintain and produce mitochondria, and helps coordinate genes involved in cellular energy production.
Supporting healthy mitochondrial function is an important area of research in cellular health and healthy ageing.

Nrf2 + NRF1: Complementary Cellular Pathways
Nrf2 supports the body’s cellular defence response to oxidative stress, while NRF1 is involved in mitochondrial function and cellular energy metabolism.
Together, they support two complementary aspects of cellular health:
cellular defence and mitochondrial function.
Understanding NAD
NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a naturally occurring molecule found in every living cell and is essential for cellular energy metabolism.
It also plays an important role in cellular processes involving sirtuins, a family of proteins associated with cellular metabolism, stress responses and healthy ageing.
NAD availability can change with age, which has made NAD metabolism an important area of research in cellular health and longevity.

Nrf2 + NRF1 + NAD: Three Complementary Pathways
Nrf2 is involved in cellular defence, NRF1 in mitochondrial function, and NAD in cellular energy metabolism and sirtuin activity.
Together, they provide a complementary approach to supporting cellular health and healthy ageing.
PROBIO
UNDERSTANDING THE GUT MICROBIOME
The gut microbiome is a complex community of microorganisms that plays an important role in digestion, nutrient metabolism and normal immune function.
Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when consumed in appropriate amounts, can help support a healthy and balanced gut microbiome.
LifeVantage ProBio provides a blend of probiotic strains using delayed-release capsule technology designed to help deliver the probiotics through the digestive tract.
6 billion CFUs of probiotic bacteria from multiple strains, formulated to support healthy digestion and gut microbiome balance.
Probiotic strains: Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis.
